Emotionally Survive the Apocalypse – Quarantined and going crazy? Don’t worry. We’ve got some tips for you…

⭐ 1. Put down that phone!

All this time at home can definitely make you more attached to your phone. It’s a whole entertainment system, and it’s a great way to stay connected to loved ones and up-to-date on what’s going on. BUT – we all need a break sometimes. Turn your phone off or on airplane mode for at least one hour a day (not when you’re sleeping). Trust me, you’ll thank us.

2. Create structure.

Staying at home all day can lead to hours sunken into your couch and days in the same sweatpants. Just because you’re not leaving, doesn’t mean you can’t create a schedule for yourself. Get up at the same time every day. Do yoga for 30 min a day. If you are now working from home, you especially need to set some routines for yourself. When your work “day” is done, CLOSE THAT LAPTOP! Set those work hours for yourself, and do not work outside of them!

⭐ 3. Set a routine for your kids (or pets).

Not only do you need structure, but your dependents do too (even if that’s just your plants). Pets should be fed around the same time every day. Your kids should know that they can’t watch TV if they’re doing schoolwork. Bedtime is still at 10PM every night – whatever your normal routines were, they should still happen (modify if you need to). We all need some ground rules, and life will be easier for everyone once you set them!

⭐ 4. See this as a break from the hustle and bustle of normal life.

We all need time to take a step back from our everyday lives. Here’s your chance! This is a great time to sit back and breathe – to self-reflect. Recenter yourself and feel grounded. Have a check-in with yourself. Do some journaling. Take some space to look at where you’re at in your life. What is bringing you joy? Where do you have room for growth?

5. Connect with your loved ones.

Miss your momma? Facetime her! I know she’d love to see your face. Miss your friends? Set up a Google Hangout! We’re all in the same boat of isolation, but we don’t have to feel alone. Check in on your friends. Make sure their mental health is okay. Call someone up, and tell them you’re thinking about them. Email your cousin an update. Send some snail mail to your friend in a different city! It’s nice to feel supported. And we definitely have the time to do that these days.

6. Fill your home with music.

It can be tough being locked down by yourself or with your roommates or partner or family. So for a nice change of pace, turn on upbeat, fun tunes to fill the rooms inside your home. Who doesn’t love a dance party?

7. Plan some fun activities!

One

When you are not working or reading the news, plan activities with those who are house-bound with you. Have a game night! Movie night – make some popcorn. Build pillow forts! Let your inner-child sing. Think of this as an adventure and make time for fun. Watch a hilarious comedy special, play some charades, practice different accents! Anything to take your mind off of what’s going on.
